 Participating in Board Meetings

Community members are encouraged to participate in the SFCJPA’s board meetings.

At the beginning of the meeting there is a dedicated time for public comment on any topic relevant to the SFCJPA. This is an opportunity to bring issues to the attention of the Board Members or staff on items that are not on the agenda.

For each agenda item the Board Chair will ask for public input before the Board Members discuss or take action.

If you would like to make a public comment during a video-conference meeting:

  • Use the “raise your hand'“ function and the Clerk of the Board will alert the Board Chair that you would like to make a comment.

  • If you are calling in to the video-conference meeting, use the *9 command, which will alert the Clerk of the Board who will let the Board Chair know.

If you would like to make a public comment during an in-person meeting:

  • When the Board Chair asks for public comment, raise your hand and wait to be acknowledged by the Board Chair, or come to the poduim. Introduce yourself, and briefly provide your comment or question. Public comment is typically limited to three minutes, although the Board Chair may choose to decrease or increase that time, depending on circumstances.

  • In the event of large attendance and many possible speakers, the Clerk of the Board may implement a speaker card system. In this situation, come to the Clerk of the Board, get blank speaker cards, fill them out, and return them to the Clerk of the Board, who will announce public commenters in the order their cards were received.
