Youth Leaders Pave the Way for Flood Resilience and Education

The Estuary Youth Council (EYC) program empowers and supports youth from marginalized communities in the San Francisco Estuary to become influential leaders in the planning, management, and decision-making of the San Francisco Estuary. One team of the 2025 EYC cohort created educational materials that raise awareness of flooding risks, explain why certain communities are more vulnerable, and share practical preparedness resources as their final capstone project.
Youth leaders, Diana Gomez-Ochoa, Sonia Escobedo, and Zeanne Martinez, have prepared an engaging brochure and video to share the history of environmental injustices, preparedness tips, and actionable information designed to inform and empower vulnerable Estuary communities. Explore their work to better understand flood risk, preparedness, and the critical role youth voices play in building safer, more equitable communities.
